Oakura is a popular, sheltered, East Coast beach community situated just 48km from Whangarei.
It offers a range of recreational activities within the sheltered harbour and on the sea-facing coastline. These activities include safe swimming, snorkelling, diving, fishing, shellfish gathering, board sailing and kayaking. Of course, with a combination of sandy beaches anda rocky coastline the are plenty of opportunities for walking and fossiking.
Closer to the property there is a general store (open 7 days) with petrol and gas supplies and, at nearby Helena Bay, a gallery featuring quality local art with a café adjacent.
Oakura feels like another world but is, in fact, only about 50 minutes drive on sealed roads from all the city conveniences – restaurants, cinemas, theatre, library, supermarkets and the airport. Whangarei also offers several golf courses, gymnasiums and other sporting facilities and venues.
